To win The Great Escape and $100,000, the teams must navigate through a maze of pipes and unfamiliar structures,
avoid patrolling guards and be the first to reach Rich, who will be waiting with the cash prize. The rules are explained, the teams are locked up and the escape is on.
The Blue team, made up of Lee and Matt, two brothers from Tennessee, is first to escape the detainment zone. On the way to Stage 1, the pair score a big lead over the other two teams. But while attempting to extend their lead, Matt and Lee charge directly into Stage 2 without realizing they’ve skipped a critical part of the escape. Meanwhile, Gregg and Jessica of the Green Team have started to gain on the Blue Team, but a guard catches them along the way.
Crescent and Natalie of the Red Team still can’t figure out where their map is in detainment. After a frustrating search, they finally find the map and move along behind the Green Team.
At Stage 1, teams must climb into furnace ducts and find electrical cables to use at Stage 2. The Blue Team is currently at Stage 2, trying to figure out where the cables are. While they waste time searching for something that isn’t there, the Green Team is on their tail. Finally, they realize that they skipped Stage 1 and retreat to the furnace ducts.
Because of their huge mistake, Matt and Lee have lost the lead. They are now neck-and-neck with Gregg and Jessica on the way to Stage 2. Both teams complete their tasks and head towards Stage 3, but to the dismay of Gregg and Jessica, a guard catches them for a second time.
At Stage 3, teams must smash through a cinderblock wall with a sledgehammer. To know which wall to smash, they must use a color code memorized in Stage 2. Making yet another massive oversight, the Blue Team forgets to memorize the color chart and picks the wrong wall to demolish. While they struggle to break down a fortified cinderblock wall, the Green Team catches up and easily breaks through theirs.
At this point in the competition, the Red Team is so far behind that their chances of a comeback are slim-to-none. They are trying to make their way to Stage 3, but numerous guard patrols are slowing their progress.
The Green Team quickly completes Stages 3 and 4 and makes their way to the Transport Zone, with the Blue Team close behind. Meanwhile, Crescent and Natalie of the Red Team finally make it towards Stage 3, but they are almost immediately caught and sent back to detainment.
As things start to get electric in the final stages of competition, the Green Team realizes they have lost their map and have to go back to find it. Luckily, it isn’t hard to find. The Blue and Green teams, both having left the Transport Zone in their Volvos, drive around and try to find host Rich Eisen. In the heat of the moment, both teams forget that to find the finish line, they have to assemble their Great Escape key. Finally, the Green Team figures it out and heads toward the finish.
Jessica and Gregg jump out of the car, run towards Rich, hand him the key and win The Great Escape. The Blue Team pulls up just in time to see the Green Team celebrating.
