James Duff, creator and executive producer of TNT’s hit drama series The Closer, has chosen his Top 10 favorite scenes from the show’s seven-season run. The Closer, starring Emmy® winner Kyra Sedgwick, is set to return this summer for its final six episodes, beginning Monday, July 9, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). Check out James’ favorite scenes below.

  1. When Brenda’s arrives at her first crime scene, a detective asks her not to be a bitch. Her response – “If I liked being called a bitch to my face, I’d still be married.” – set the tone for the first year. (“Pilot” – Season 1: 6/13/05)
  2. While Flynn and Provenza are getting ready to attend a Dodgers game, they discover the body of a dead woman in Provenza’s garage. (“To Protect & to Serve” – Season 2: 7/10/06)
  3. A medical student’s certainty that doctors killed her son leads her to perform an autopsy on him. Scary, dark and very, very real. (“Heroic Measures” – Season 2: 8/7/06)
  4. Brenda and Gabriel are attacked in their car. (“Blindsided” – Season 3: 8/13/07)
  5. Brenda’s mother, Willie Ray Johnson (guest star Frances Sternhagen), sings “O Come, All Ye Faithful” while driving an RV from Atlanta to Los Angeles. (“Next of Kin” – Season 3: 12/3/07)
  6. Guest star Jennifer Coolidge’s interviews in “Dial M for Provenza.” All of them. They’re just hilarious. (“Dial M for Provenza” – Season 4: 8/11/08)
  7. Sanchez breaks down, finally, over the murder of his brother while Provenza holds him. (“Sudden Death” – Season 4: 8/28/08)
  8. The confrontation between Sharon Raydor and Brenda at the end of “Strike Three” represents the show at its very best. (“Strike Three” – Season 5: 7/20/09)
  9. Finding the body of a missing young boy  at the end of the first act of “Under Control.” This scene displays the harrowing effect on the police officers searching for the child; you might think they are beyond disappointment, but the loss of a young boy they were hoping to save deeply effects them. (“Under Control” – Season 7: 8/1/11)
  10. The accident in “Road Block,” the chase scene in “Waivers of Extradition” and every other action sequence like that we have done. (“Road Block” – Season 7: 12/19/11; “Waivers of Extradition” – Season 5: 8/24/09)
